having issues with call forward on M7310 North Star phone.

When the main line rings and when some one transfers to that extension it is the same intercom button that rings and lights up. when we call forwarded to an out side number it forwarded all calls to the out side number. how can I change it so that when someone transfers to the extension it goes to a different intercom button then the main line. That way I can try to redirect the transfer lines only to the external number.

Thank you for your help.

Maybe I can shed some light…

I understand that the phones are set up so the external lines ring on Intercom buttons (Ring Only in programming). This setup has the following behaviour:
[ul]
[li]When an external incoming call rings, it appears on the first free (the lowest) Intercom button.[/li]
[li]When a transferred call rings, it also appears on the first free (the lowest) Intercom button.[/li]
[/ul]

I think euva wants the transferred calls to ring on specific buttons so that only those calls can be forwarded to an external number. If I am correct, read on.

The Call Forward feature will forward any call that rings at a particular extension. If you want only transferred calls to be forwarded, you will have to prevent external incoming calls from ringing at that extension. You can do that by programming the lines to Appear Only (instead of Ring Only) on the extension.

Another solution is to use Hunt Groups. Hunt Groups do not follow Call Forward rules. With Hunt Groups, you could have the transferred calls forwarded to an external number, while still having the external incoming call ring at the extension. Note that the calls will still appear on the first free Intercom button, but they won't get forwarded.

If you choose to use Hunt Groups, you will need to assign each external line to its own Hunt Group. Then, you will need to add the extension as a member of all the Hunt Groups. Finally, you will have to program the member extension to Ring Only for the Hunt Group calls.

Thanks Multimedium that is exactly what is going on.

Thanks for your help I am going to try to set the main line to appear only.

Thanks again Multimedium. I followed your suggestions and was able to setup the call forwarding and now it works properly.
