Can anyone give me a link or details on how a IP phone call is handled start to finish in a Communication Manager? I am having a problem with voice packet being dropped over a Cisco backbone, and trying to sort out the issue as Avaya or Cisco. Thanks

hauchinango,

avaya ip phones use h.323 protocol. there is a lot of papers on this, try google or something.

How have you administered your links between endpoint.. are your endpoints Avaya >< Avaya or Avaya <> Cisco ?

Its pretty easy, if you are dropping packets there are a couple of basic tools you can run to verify. You can connect a PC on the same Network where the IP Phones are connected to. Then you can run some pings and trace routes to find out where on the network it is dropping packets. For the Avaya phones, you can to configure then to AUTO/AUTO, and setup your Qos.

You can also run a sniffer on one of the IP Phones and see if it is dropping packets as you say.

Let me know if this helps or need more info.
