You want some sort of rfc for AS400??
I do not know much about the AS400 but if its a host and you give the user execute rights a <a href wil start the API (I, think, could be)
 
No, I don't want any sort of rfc for AS400. I'm working with NT, and have to get the user name through API (or something else).

To get the user name is just one functionality among others that I actualy do with my application in VB 6.0 using API's.

I'm migratting the VB clients to HTML clients using Javascript.

How can I call the API's with Javascript?

You need to use ActiveXObjects, which means the clients will have to 'trust' your site. Look here for more info, as the filesystemobject is an activex control, and there is a tutorial on using that at ms:


also, you may consider using HTAs as they provide a trusted relationship:
