Call a Oracle function and get result assaign in a variable

Hi All,

I have requirement in shell script, need to call a function and return values and then assaign in a shell variable.

You would need to invoke Oracle's sqlplus utility from shell; and pipe, specify, or redirect the results to a shell variable or file. What have you tried so far?
