Hello:

I have been asked to create a reporting schedule based on a 24-hour period. I have read several threads and I found a demo provided by DHookom on the invisible inc website.

I have perused it at length and I think I understand how the vba behind the reports is working (setting number of twips for position, etc.).

However, I am having some difficulty understanding how Grouping works in access. I am wondering if there is a FAQ specifically dedicated to advanced report writing on this or some other site.

Also, Duane, your reports are awesome! Not only that, I have read a number of your responses on several threads and you are a great resource. Very glad you make yourself available on this site.

I have learned a lot from your demo reports in particular. I do, however, have a question about a particular calendar style report which you created: it is the doctor appointment report on invisibleinc.com.

This report is configured for a portrait layout; I am wondering how to keep the times (y-axis) and the doctor names (x-axis) as they are, but make the report print out in landscape layout.

When I try to change a number of parameters (grouping, vba behind the report column, page setup, etc.), all I can manage to do is make the columns appear separately per page. I certainly appreciate your help in advance.

Anyway, any assistance any of you can provide is very much appreciated.

I am having to do a similar report and I was wondering if you could provide the link for the demo you found. I went to the site, but can't seem to find it. Thanks, and good luck.

Hi chiefman,

Yes, that URL is:
BTW, can you please point me to some good resources on advanced report writing or do you have any thoughts regarding my question?

You will see the calendar style report under Calendar reports. I think it is Appointments by Doctor.

I would love to, but I haven't really found any myself. I'm just kind of feeling my way through it right now. All of the reports I've done to this point have been bound to a table or query. Now that I'm having to do them all by code I haven't been able to find any good resources. I'll let you know if I come across one or have any ideas about your question, though. Thanks for the link.

socomfort,
I have a few minutes before heading out for dinner.
You shouldn't have much issue changing the orientation of the report. The key to the report is the Me.MoveLayout = False. This line of code basically overlays multiple detail sections on top of a header or footer section.

The grouping level is based on all of the records you want to group together in the calendar display. The location and sizes of the controls are set in the On Format event of the detail section.

Let me know if you have other questions.

chiefman,
Tek-tips and public news groups are some of the best resources for creating reports. There is no better teacher than the experience of others. There are many great report writers here and you will find lots of MS MVPs on the public Access.Reports news group.

dhookom,
I don't disagree that the people on this site are very helpful. You, and others have had some very good suggestions. What I meant was that I haven't yet found a site where I can go and view examples of many different types of reports and coding examples. It is sometimes difficult to find someone who has come across the same things that I am having to figure out. This site has offered great help, though and I sincerely appreciate it. I didn't mean to sound like this wasn't a good resource.

hi .. tried the link but no files there for download.. am also on the path of 'reporting a schedule'..

Hello dhookom, I would like to get the calendar report sample.
I went to the previous links but couldn't find them.
Can you tell me where I can download them from?
Thanks,
