Problem
You receive the following error message in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager when attempting to synchronize with the Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
Unable to get Data from an Outlook or MS Exchange Record. Lack of network access to MS Exchange Server can cause this problem.
Cause
If you are synchronizing with a public calendar, you might not have access rights to the calendar.
Resolution
Ensure that you have access rights to the calendar. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
In Outlook, browse to the public folder with which you are attempting to synchronize.
Click Calendar.
Create a new appointment.
Delete the new appointment.
If you receive a permissions error while trying to complete steps 4 or 5, you do not have access rights to the public folder. Contact your system administrator to request the appropriate access rights to the folder.
Cause
The desktop manager does not have the proper connection to your Exchange server.
Resolution Summary
Perform one or all of the following resolutions:
Ensure that the default connection state for Outlook is set at Connect with the network.
Verify that new mail is not being delivered to a personal folder.
Create a new Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile, and configure Intellisync® to use the new profile.

Ensure that the default connection state for Outlook is set at Connect with the network. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
On your desktop, right-click the Microsoft Outlook icon and click Properties.
From the list of information services, click Microsoft Exchange Server.
Click Properties.
Ensure that the Connect with the network option is selected.
Click OK > OK.
Resolution
Verify that new mail is not being delivered to a personal folder. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
On your desktop, right-click the Microsoft Outlook icon and click Properties.
Click the Delivery tab.
Ensure that the Deliver new mail to the following location drop-down list displays Mailbox - <your name>.
Click OK.
Resolution
Create a new MAPI profile, and configure Redirector Settings and Intellisync to use the new profile. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
Close the desktop manager.
Create a new MAPI profile. For assistance with this task, see the Microsoft Outlook Help topic Create a user profile or consult your system administrator.
Connect the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ to your personal computer.
Open the desktop manager.
Configure Redirector Settings to use the new MAPI profile. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
In the desktop manager, double-click the Redirector Settings icon.
Click the Advanced tab.
Click Profile Settings.
Select the Always use this profile option.
From the drop-down list, click the new MAPI profile.
Click OK > OK.
Configure the handheld’s personal information management (PIM) applications (Address Book, Calendar, MemoPad, and Tasks) to use the new MAPI profile. To perform this task, complete the following steps:
In the desktop manager, double-click the Intellisync icon.
Click Configure PIM.
In the Handheld Applications list box, click the Address Book option.
Click Choose.
In the Available Translators list box, click the MS Outlook option.
Click Options.
From the User Profile drop-down list, click the new user profile (MAPI profile).
Click OK > OK.
Repeat steps 3 through 8 for the three remaining applications.
Click OK > Close.
