Calculation of year-to-date

Hi,

I am new to Cognos tools. Earlier I was using MS-OLAP for cube development. We have a function PeriodToDate() there which calculate running total from the begining up to that period. How can we calculate the same using Powerplay transformer? I tried using relative time categories, but couldn't. Please help.

If you open the categories view ( Menu Diagram / show Diagram) , select your time dimension on the left frame , then you can insert calculated categories.
There is some specific calculation categories for time dimension ,you can have Year to Date and much more as you a custom time calculation.
By default when you create a time dimension , Transformer is adding Current Period , Last period , and some Months to date categories.

You can look to the Transformer Help F1 , and search for "relative time, future projections" , you ll find all the needed explanations here.

As Draoued said above, just use the Date wizard, or open up the date dimesion & create a new time period. There are many relative times to chose from (month to date, year to date, quarter to date etc.) & you can create your own special ones.
