Hi,

I want to create a calculated field as a sort expression on my report. I want this calculated field to sort by my LastName and FirstName fields.

Can anyone help me with this? Do I need to create a calculated field first and then select this expression in the sorting and grouping window? If so, what's the syntax for the calculated expression. Is it something like, "FullName = [LastName], [FirstName]"

Thanks a lot.

You can enter expressions directly into the sort field of the Sorting and Grouping window:

=[LastName] & ", " & [FirstName]

Hi,
I usually do this in the query by creating a new field element. I wrote an faq on it: [faq701-3273].

For years, I was able to open and print reports that had fields with expressions in them using access 2000. Then all of a sudden access will crash whenever I try to view one of my reports that has expressions in it.
But I still can open any report that I have, as long as it doesn't have an expression in it.
Does anyone know why this happens?
