Hey guys, little new to the Win2K server side.
If we wanted to get a 2K server running Active Directory, but for the singular use of managing profiles and policies.
Do I need a CAL license for each user who's going to be connecting to get this profile or policy?
I went here for info.
but they are really vague by using the term data. Is a policy or profile considered "Data" to MS?

Let me know pls, and Thanks in advance!

I would think you would need licenses. However you could do it by concurrent connections and reduce how many you need. My best advice though is to call MS legal department and ask for a definitive answer. I don't know the number but a couple of years ago I just called their tech support and they gave me the number without a problem.

If you are setting a Win2K server up to run Active Directory, then it is going to be a domain controller and all other domain controllers (NT4 PDC or BDC) will also have to be upgraded to 2000 domain controllers. If you run in mixed mode, AD is not implimented.

Since it will be one of the Domain Controllers, then you will need CALS.

Do you currently run per-seat or per-server? If you run per-seat then you already have your licensing taken care of (as long as you already have current a CAL for each seat). If you are running per server, then you will only need to purchase CALs for the maximum number of connections the 2000 server will have concurrently.
