Hello

I"m looking for some help on licensing Windows server.

Here is the situation.

My Church is migrating to a windows domain ( from linux).
We will have 2 servers to start, 1 for the AD,DNS, and DHCP. One for a file server. down the road we are thinking of bringing our website inhouse so that will need a web server.

We have 20ish full time staff, some on laptops some on desktops. we have 5 part time staff that share pc's.

we also have a lot of volunteers ( 50 ish) that could benefit from having domain access (using local shared pc's )but would not be full time users, maybe 5 at a time or so.

I need to buy a copy of server, should i buy server 2003 or 2008 and what kind of licensing should i use, per user, per device or per server.

any help is much appersihiated

If your users will be sharing computers then you'll want to license by device as you have to buy less licenses. If your users will each have there own dedicated computer, then per user so that if they have more than one computer you are covered.

As for what version, I'd go with 2008 or 2008 R2. Windows 2003 will be out of support soon.
