Cache Memory Allocator

I have a new Netware 6.5 server that has been running for about 29 days. It has three volumes and about 500gb of allocated space (900 total) and I think 2gb RAM. It has Arcserve, Apache and NDPS running on it. I am now getting "Cache Memory Allocator out of Available Memory" errors. I searched the forum for this, but the things that came back don't treat NW 6.5 too well. Does anyone have some optimal settings that I can apply to get this cleaned up?

Problem with that TID is that with NW6.5 SP3, Novell recommends throwing out almost every recommendation they made for SP2 regarding the same problem.

What I have found though, and continue to do is this..

Apply the Post SP3 server.exe patch
Hard Set Directory services to only use a fixed amount of RAM.
Set TSAFS with the /CACHEMEMORYTHRESHOLD=1 parameter.

If I continue to see problems, I try to get Novell involved. The memory stuff on NetWare has evolved so much and is extremely complex. Making sense of it, and trying to tune it is very difficult.

Great, thanks. I'll apply this when I do my GW6.5 upgrade next weekend. I'll let you know how well it works about 29 days after that [thumbsup2]

I have downloaded that patch file twice and extracted it on two different servers and on neither one did the 'server.exe' file make it through the process. Anyone have a working copy of this patch that they can e-mail to me?

You're lucky you made it 29 days. ;)

Your virus software might be interfering. Also make sure you extract it from a command prompt for better results.

I tried that method on two machines and re-downloaded it to a different machine and tried it on the root of C:\ with exactly the same results. It tells me that it skips that file and then reports an extraction error when finished.

Anyone else out there want to try it and see if they have the same problem with this file?

The copy I grabbed on June 15 is fine. The copy I just grabbed reports "*** Damaged ARJ-SECURED archive!"

That blows. You should wander over to the Novell forums and let them know.

If you've got an ftp site I can push my good copy to you Monday...

Well thank goodness. At least I'm not crazy..

I'll take you up on that offer. Post it to ftp.aguirre.com and I'll grab it.
thanks

Thanks.. got it. Did you rename the file? I also notice that the file size is much larger than the one I download from Netware. Maybe that is why the file failed to work. :)

You don't have it yet, I'm only at 14%! Busy pipe this morning... It's named nw65sp3.exe and is in your /incoming directory. Gonna take a while as slow as my connection is...(68k/sec).

I really appreciate the effort, but unfortunately this is not the file. The file I am looking for is the post-sp3 file. It is only a little over 2mb in size. nw65os3a.exe
thanks

OK, I sent you my working copy of sp3a. In your Incoming dir.

Just a note to close this thread. I finally got the nw65os3a to unarchive properly, but I had to do it on a Windows 2000 box. I could not do it from an XP box at all.

Of course I have not yet restarted my servers after having applied the patches, so I don't know, ultimately, if the 3a patch will work.
