Cabling: Crossover or Straight?

Hi,

Connection:
splitter-cable -> cable modem -->> switch --->>> pc1...

My problem:
-->> crossover? straigh?
--->>> crossover? straight?

Switch to pc is always straight through

cable modem to switch varies but is mostly crossover (or even better, uplink port on switch) I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
