Cables failed testing... 1

Hello,
Background:
We have a "problem" site. The users constantly complain of slow links, and apps over Citrix. We have done everything under the Sun, software-wise.
When upgrading the Frame-Link, I noticed the cable was your typical "nightmare", all over the place, nothing labeled, etc.
We had a crew come out and test all data cabling. We had a 37.5% fail rate. 95% of those fails were NEXT with a local value of 41.4 and remote of 27.3, for one example. Now I know what NEXT can cause on the Voice side, but not the Data, which brings me to,
Question:
What does this tell me? If we replace the cable, what are the chances that this could improve performance? It was my idea to test the cable, and now that we have failures, I would hate to spend a bunch of money to fix something that won't have any affect on the network...

What kind of jacks and cable are you using? Is there any other visable problems with the cabling? I have found that most of the time NEXT is a problem with poor terminations. I have inherited a network with poor terminations. Wires are stripped back 3" or 4" in front of the jack on both ends. Before you spend money to re-wire the whole thing I would re-terminate with new jacks and check the cables again. This is just what has worked for me in the past.

As I read your post the same thought came to mind try reterminating a few first to see if the fault lies there or in the cable itself

Another thing you didn't mention was what level it is supposedly cabled to. Is it cat5 or maybe only cat3.
What level was it being tested for? If it happens to only be wired to cat3 and you test for cat5 it will most likely fail every time, might pass on some short runs.
The other question is what speed are you trying to run at?
 
It is all CAT5, tested for the same. We should be running locally at nothing but 100mbs. All equipment is 100mb compliant and the "good" cables are running that speed....
