I am wondering what equipment most of you use you verify and certify cables. We are looking at Fluke's Microscanner2. Does anyone know if it is worth the money or is there something better. Thanks.

The Microscanner 2 is more of a test unit than for verifying. I have about 5 of them and they work great for testing purposes. We run down troubles with them (wiremap, showing a hub connection) and check the footage using them.

But they are not for certifying cables. The cable certifiers are a lot more expensive than this little unit.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.

Also there is a difference between a verifier and a certifier. You need to know which the customer/supplier requires for warranty work.

The answer is "42"

It would not surprise me if most cable manufacturers require certification in order for an installation to be covered by a warrantee.

In some cases, due to the high price of certifiers, it might be more cost effective to rent one on an "as needed" basis rather than purchase one outright.

There are also companies that, for a price will come in and do the certification and give you a full printed report.
