I have been asked to cable a building that has both wood and metal studs. The building has a drop ceiling and above it, installation and wood roof trusses.

Right now the cable just sits on top of the drop ceiling. We usually use bridle rings and j hooks for cable supports.

How would you support the cables since there are wood trusses? I could probally still use a jhook or bridle ring but there is very little room between the ceiling and the roof trusses.

Thanks!

Use a 4 pair staple gun and staple a 7" cable tie( a few times), to the trusses, considering theres room for a staple gun.

Right, use the J hooks. There has to be at least 3" between the bottom of the joists and the ceiling grid or they couldn't get the tiles in. Keep the hooks as high on the joists as you can.

I'm also going to assume that these are not "trusses" since if they were you could just run your cables through the open spaces- no hooks or supports needed.

After looking to see what types of bridle rings erico sold I may go with the wood screw ones.

3M makes a nail in 4 fingered I think the part number is MP1 they will hold 12 cat 5 cables ,they were originally made for seccuring romax,They make a real neat residential install in the attic ,I make atrunk line and brach off, you could use as many rows as you need ,they aren't that expensive, you pull the cables to length,in a suspended ceiling, i usually pull 4-6 cables in a run along with a jet line, then you go back and simply pickup the cable and put it in the clip, they have a 90 degree tip on each finger to keep the cable from falling out.

Remember not all bridle rings are appropriate for CAT5 cable.

panduit makes these fixed diameter cable clamps (these are plastic rings that you screw into beams or studs and run your cables through) ---the number is CCH100-S10-C and you get 100 a bag for about $20.00. Great for cable management and if you use jet string--you can do additional pulls over long distances with no problems.

good luck

Arlington makes neat plastic hangers, cheap, flexible, plenum , fasten easily to anything.
