This just started happnening a few days ago. This is a netgear unit supplied by comcast, my ISP. It'll be working fine for an hour or so, and then I notice that the modem appears to be completely off. No lights or anything on the display indicating that it is on. I unplug/replug it, and it works fine, until the next time I notice that it appears to be totally off. It doesn't sense inactivity, and then sponteneously shut down does it?

What's the deal? a bad modem you think? I have it plugged into a UPS, so it's getting a steady power stream. The router also is plugged into the UPS and it doesn not go down.

Any idea what would cause this? Comcast is supposed to replace it next week, but I'm wondering if it could be something else. I'd hate to find out next week my new modem is acting the same way.

Sounds like a a bad modem or power supply for the modem sincye you've tried putting on UPS outlet. Comcast replaced one of mine because it was acting squirrely.

that's what i thought, but I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had a similar experience, where it just seems to shut off. It does indeed sound like a power supply issue or something similar, doesn't it?
