Cable modem/ISP timing out?

My ISP (Futureway Communications) uses a FibreQuest cable modem to bridge my PC to the ISP server via fibre optic trunk to my house (the modem has no IP).

If I stop accessing the internet for more than a few minutes, the modem TX/RX lights go out and I start getting "PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND" errors. It appears as though the connection is TIMING OUT due to INACTIVITY?!Attempting to release and renew results in a NO DHCP
RESPONSE TIMEOUT (no connection with ISP).

If I wait long enough, the modem seems to poll for connection and eventually, I get reconnected. It will remain connected so long as I am accessing the internet.
(I confirmed this by leaving on PING-LOG which continually pinged my ISP every 10 seconds...the connection never failed for 3 days).

VERY FRUSTRATING...NEED HELP PLEASE!

wow! thats a new one for me! have you talked to you ISP about this? have you had tech visits?

It sounds to me that you have either:

A: a defective modem

B: a poor cable connection
or
C: a Bad ISP setup causeing it to drop after a time of inactivity.

Either way, you will have to call the ISP and enlist the help of their techs, unfortunately.

Another thing your could try is getting newer firmware for your bridge/modem (if possible).

oh, and one more thing I just thought of.... check your cable between the modem and your computer. When it says that you have no connection to the isp, make sure that you have a link light to the modem.
