Is there a program out there that will remotely tell you what your cable modems IP address is?

your right, maybe I should rephrase. I need to know what the WAN address is to reach my servers which are nat'ed behind my BB router. Sometimes, no, a lot of the time, my cable company rotates networks and I end up with a different WAN ip address. this makes it near impossible to reach my devices without knowing what IP address to point to. Is this a better question?

Ever think about DDNS (Dynamic DNS) I've never used it but some people use it with great success. Suppose to work pretty good for this particular configuration.... david e

DDNS is great...(where else can you get a domain name like funbags.servebeer.com)?

That is a better question. DDNS is a good answer too.

You could do other things too though. If your machine is always on you could write a script to query the router for what it's IP is and then e-mail to you on a daily basis. Not as cool as DDNS but if you're handy with scripting you could do it pretty easily.

Actually, many cable modems DO have an IP address. The address used (typically as a web server) for status and configuration. I don't think they're EVER available from the cable side of the modem though.

My pc is setup as DHCP to Cox Cable. If you were to monitor the process you would see your pc getting a LAN ip first than accessing the WAN ip. To test your WAN ip you can go to Jeter@LasVegas.com
