I have a computer running ME and whenever i try to connect from the modem to the computer through ethernet wire, it doesnt work. USB works fine but i'm getting another computer and i need to have it work so i can get an ethernet router. If you would know why this would happen plz help me.
Also when I had a lan party and went from the modem to a router, it would not work, does this mean there is something wrong with the router and not my computer?

If you are using DHCP - as opposed to static IP - which I assume you are - go into winipcfg (I think that works on ME) - check all of your TCP/IP adapters - and do a release all. Make sure you are connected to the ethernet wire - as opposed to the USB - Then renew. If this doesn't work from ME - go to a DOS box and type "ipconfig /release" press enter - then type "ipconfig /renew" press enter.

That would be a good place to start.

Give us some clues: did link lights light up, were there error messages, have you tried different cables? What brands and models of equipment?

if connected via USB can you ping 192.168.100.1? if so, type it in your browser to see modem info.
What does ipconfig /all look like USB and ethernet

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Are you trying with a straight or crossover cable?
