Anyone have any good sources on cable lacing, i.e., bundling cables with waxed cord instead of plastic or velcro ties? I came across a reference to a Bellcore publication but Telecordia requires an enterprise license for that document.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I had found that one. It's a good start, but it also suggests that there is a lot more to learn.

That seems to be a lost art these days. If you could locate an old timer Western Electric Installer, they probably could provide a few pointers about cable lacing. Or even someone that worked for an old switch manufacturer that made up cable assemblies.

Hope this helps!

i still lace cables when i get a chance, but it's been decades since it was a requirement.. i used a chicago stitch, that is a basic double half hitch with the second being opposite the 1st, that meant that each loop was a double and each loop locked.. like the "man" said, it's pretty much a lost art, along with lead sleeves...

I work for a CLEC and I do stitching on a infrequent basis and I find that I can get way with using 3 types of lacing techniques in most cases. Chicago stitch is the most frequently used followed by a simple stitch and then maybe the power stitch witch is a simplified Chicago stitch.

Greg,

right hand half hitch followed by a lefthand half hitch every 4 inches... Chicago stitch, very simple, very quick and almost impossible unless you see one tied... but keep up the good work, don't let stitching die with us old guys

Mike Sandman responded that he has no info other than selling lace and needles.

Why is there never a phone in any of the phone closets?
