Cable Behind 4port router slow downloads

I have a Linksys router, says Network Anywhere on it, got it from walmart(that may be my answer there).
When I connect directly into the cable modem (road runner) I can get 800KBS downloads. Once I plug it in behind the router, I get around 130-140 tops downloads. I have tinkered with a lot of stuff, port forwarding, DMZ, and firmware, nothing has worked.
Any tips would be great, or a link to a decent priced router that would solve this.

The Network Anywhere router is a fairly decent box, it is a slightly scaled down version of the BEFSR41.

. Check that you are current on the firmware for the router. Go to the Network Anywhere web site.

. While connected to the router, do a Tweak Test from the Broadband Reports site. Often two or three tests are needed over several days to get a fair picture of your performance behind the router.

. You should see no difference in download speeds between your connection to the router and your direct connection to the cable modem. Check the cables you are using for both modem --> router, and your connection to the router from your workstation.

What is your nic card set for ? You should set it for auto if you are going to router , if it works right at auto you should have a 100/full connection between you and the router .If you have a mismatch this will slow it down a lot .

it is on auto, and shows i am connected at 100MBS

i had road runner come out and look at it, they said they had no idea.

Did you do the Tweak test suggested earlier? Did you modify MTU and RWIN values as suggested by the test?
