CAB files - Collecting by FTP

I have been collecting Cab files by FTP off MD110's for years , recently I have struck a problem return code "FC/C: 550 cab: cannot remove an open file" - yet if I ftp manually - get the cab, delete the cab - it works fine. So I got another package - commercial one called Bulletproof FTP client and its error logs are identical - so that eliminates my original package. Why would manual work and not the software packages?? The MD110 is very recent and I have been told that the FTP Cab side of thing has not changed - it is a Unix based protocol - independant of the software levels...

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas etc..
