CA Arcserve trouble

hello all, i'm not only new here, but also new to the backup side of IT. it was kind of dumped on me so for two weeks now i've been doing seat of the pants learning. i've gone through all the FAQ's i could find but still cant find anything on my current problem. Here it is, i hope someone can at least guide me towards a solution.

I have a Windows 2003 server, running Brightstor ARCserve r11.5 sp3, build 4402. everytime the backup tries to run, it hangs at Calculate Session and the only error's i can find (may not be looking in the right place) are "W3491 Unable to insert UUID to the database" and "E3759 Unable to update the job map information to the Database."

Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing this and what i can do to fix it? I've started and stopped the DB. I've tried fresh media tapes. I really have no idea of where to go from here and would appreciate any and all help i get.
 
Get familiar with the ARCserve support page at support.ca.com. You can find the product manuals, tech docs, etc. and patches and updates. Most important is to get SP4 installed.

If the problem continues put the Job Engine in debug (server admin, configuation) and ck the activity log.
