Hello!

Background: We have a C3548-XL that is reloading itself and I can't figure out why. I would like to replace it with a C3550 48 Port SMI.

A couple questions:

1) Can I hook the two switches to each other?

2) Can I copy the running config from the old 3548 to the new 3550? If so, how?

Thanks a bunch!!!!

You can hook both of them together but no you cannot copy the config from the old 3548xl . A 3550 is really a l2/l3 routing switch and is different than a layer 2 3548xl , the configs will be different .

I thought that the SMI did not have L3 capability, just more advanced L2 features, than say a 2950

SMI will do static and basic RIP according the cisco docs I looked at where as EMI will do any routing protocol and other advanced features such as HSRP etc...

Yes, you can't copy and paste 3548 config to 3550. How ever you can stack them using Gigastack GBIC or a cross over.

you could call cisco to get the 3548 replaced.. they have a lifetime warranty
