I have a user who has three personal PST files, plus their Exchange mailbox.

He is the MD, so he is allowed to!

I am upgrading him to a new machine. I have copied the PST files across, and his now machine now displays his mailbox and the three personal folders.

However, some contacts are missing.

I check on the original machine too, by looking on the CONTACTS tab on the left, and they are not in there either.

However, if I open up the address book, they are there for all to see.

On the old machine, if I open up the address book, and go TOOLS - OPTIONS, I see three address liss mentioned:

Contacts
Global Address Lists
Contacts

The top contacts is in a personal folder (I right click it to see that). The bottom contacts is in the mailbox.

What I don't get, is why when I view the contacts in the personal folders, do I not see the contacts that are in the address book?

This is driving me mad.

HELP!

Worst case scenario, export them out to a CSV and re-import them? Is that possible in this situation?

In the control panel, > Mail, click on Add, and see if Personal address book is an option. If so, that's the route you need to go.

My problem is I don't know where to export from. If I look into any of the contacts folders, I don't see the names, yet I do see them in the address book!

Oh well things just went from bad to worse.

On the old machine, I closed on the Personal Folders so that there were no attached PST files.

If I open up CONTACTS on the left, I see that there is no entry for JOHN DOE.

However, if I open up the address book, there is JOHN DOE.

But there are no personal folders attached, so this is confusing me.

I close Outlook, then go to CONTROL PANEL > MAIL

I click on Data Files. This confirms that there are no personal folders in use.

I click on EMail Accounts, and select to VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING DIRECTORIES OR ADDRESS BOOKS.

This shows the Outlook Address Book, of type MAPI.

I click on the CHANGE button to the right of this.

This displays two address books!

One is
CONTACTS: Mailbox - FRED BLOGS

The other is
CONTACTS: PERSONAL FOLDERS

Huh? What is that? There are no personal folders anymore?

Then things got even worse. I remove the Personal Folders from the list, and checked. At last, FRED BLOGS is now no longer in the address book!

Ok, so now I need to move whatever that personal folder was to the new machine. Only I cannot find it. Whats more, I cannot re-insert it into the Outlook Address Book list, as to do that I need a PST file (right click contacts, Properties > Outlook Address Book > Tick show this folder).

So I am stuck. Whats more, I can no longer view the JOHN DOE email address, so a manual migration is out of the question as well.

Help!!!!
