ok, I'm dealing with a computer hard drive that is full of wholes because of viruses.
After all else failed I had to try formating the hard drive. Well I removed the 2 partitions and created a single C: partion. Well when I run format c: it only gets to about 20% and then it shows "trying to recover allocation unit (number that keeps changing)
After running like this for a while, it stops formating and says that it wasn't ready
Do i need to just get a new hard drive, or is there a way to make this thing actually format? As of right now, I can't reinstall any kind of windows OS because it says that there isn't enough space on C:

First try running FDISK n the drive (or better yet Partition Magic). Completly destoy the partition. Then recreate them. Finally reformat the drive. IF that fails, go get the low level formay utility from the drive makers web site and run it. This utility will set your drive back to factory default specs. You should then be able to partition and format.

It is telling you that the drive lost ready. And yes, you are to the point that you need another drive. Low level may force it to OK again, but someday it will get used heavily and it will lose ready again. And possibly lose your data since these things tend to get worse rather than better.

I was afriad that I was going to have to get a new hard drive. Destroying the partition several times didn't work. So I guess it is off to the store to get a new one.
