C++ programming on OS X / XCode (coming from php)

Hi to everyone,

I would like to begin programming on the mac! What i have done up to now is a bit of php programming (

<-- my site, a knowledgebase with IT knowledge inside...). I know some things about variables, arrays and some of the general php functions, in connection with mysql.
Would C++ be the right area to begin programming on the mac for me?
And how do i get to know xcode? tutorials and such? Does anybody know some good tutorial sites for programming beginners?
