I have a Compaq DL380 server with Windows 2000. Drives 0 - 2 is a RAID 5 24GB drive, but I think this server was upgraded from Windows NT so the C:\ Drive is only like 4 GB and was installed as a basic disk so I cannot upgrade to dynamic disk. The c:\ is running out of room, so here is my plan.
1) Put more disks in slot 3-5 and create a 2nd RAID drive
2) Install Windows 2003 Server on new drive and create much larger c:\ drive
So now when the PC boots, it will have a Windows 2000 instance on first RAID group and Windows 2003 and 2nd RAID group that I can choose from
3) Choose Windows 2003 instance
4) Copy any necessary files over to newly created OS
5) format old RAID group and use it as a data drive
Does anyone see anything wrong with this plan? What am I missing? Will I have to change the boot order in BIOS before it will let me choose the 2nd drive to boot from? If I do this, will this instance of the O/S be able to see and read from the 1st drive without formating it first?
