HI

I have taken in a laptop that had a 6g hard drive partitioned in 2 a c drive and a d drive, the owner wanted the d drive removed and windows reloaded all files on the system had been backed up so no problem to do a clean install.

So I fdisk the partition and got rid of d then removed c and then repartitioned with all of the drive space allocated to c drive.

when I check the drive partition information in fdisk it says the primary c drive is 6g so all is well.

Then I formated c drive but only 2g formatted.

When at the command prompt you can select c and d drive and it says c is only 2g.

I tried to install win98 but the setup started in d drive, then the setup stopped saying if I was using NTFS or compressed files I should look at the readme files on setup disk one.

Fdisk says c drive is FAT16 and uses all of the availble space which it reports as basically 6g (It think it actually reads 5712m which I understand no comments please)does not see a D drive.

When at command prompt I can d:\Dir and get a list of files, I try to format D drive but it says it cannot be formatted and anyway Fdisk says it does not exist.

I do not understand what is happening.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the startup disk for win98? If not goto and download the appropriate install disk(s).

You need to enable "large disk support" when fdisking then format ensuring it see's the entire drive (6 gb).

Cheers

If I understand correctly.......you can start anew/fresh......right?.........if so....

Go to fdisk
Delete in this order.....
Delete "All non-dos Partitions"
Delete "Logical Dos"
Delete "Extended Dos"
Delete "Primary"

Create New.......at first Fdisk prompt....
Select "Enable Large Disc Support" (Y/N)........hit "Y"
Create "Primary"
make Primary "Active"......

Then format C:

Yes win98 loaded but I now have graphics, modem and sound driver problems to sort out.

Typical laptop problems.

Thanks for your help.

Any pointers for Fujitsu Siemens drivers would be appreciated.

Nyg;
Here's a link with a ton of drivers.....
and/or Home Page is
only thing is you nedd to register first......and can be a pain in the A*& to use
One tip before you're there is to go to Tools>InternetOptions>Security>Custom Level...........put a check in "prompt for user name and password" (Make a note of what the Original Setting is).....all the way down at the "Logon" area.....and if other connections get screwy, put it back to where it was before

Hi TT4U

Thanks for the pointer, I now have all of the downloads I need thanks, I used your earlier post and went from there, once I had found the page for the C6535 all of the drivers were available.

I have the links to driver guide already but prefer to go to the manufacturer site if possible, for your refernce the page I used for the downloads is

This site is excellent it is clear and easy to use once you have the full model number of the Fujitsu laptop

It's amazing how a simple job can take hours, thanks for the heads up on the Fdisk that helped alot, 2 heads really are better than one in this case.

I am sure our paths will cross again.

Cheers
