Hi,

I am trying some of the free antivirus softwares like Avast!, AVG and Antivir personal edition. When I scan my PC with these antivirus softwares, they catches some of the trojan viruses like JAVA.BYTEVERIFY, JAVA.CLASSLOADER, TR/NOCHEAT.2 etc and I used to prompt the files that contains the viruses. The issue is how these viruses/trojans are getting into the computer when the antivirus software is resident (all the three offers realtime protection). Any ideas?. How do I prevent these viruses from getting into my PC?. I should be able to catch them and delete when ever they try to enter into my PC.

Some of the best preventions is go into your IE options and change the scripts to either off or prompt. This include ActiveX, Java, etc. That way, wether you go to a web site that trys to upload you a script/virus or you get an email with a script/virus like the above, you will receive a warning that something is try to run a script.

In IE 6, you go to internet properties, then select the security tab. Then click on the Custom Level button. I turn off all scripts that are unsigned or "not marked as safe." All others, I turn to prompt.

It's not fool proof but it helps.

Hi,

That was a good suggestion. However, my question was different. Why these trojans and viruses are not getting caught by the "realtime protection" even though I am able to catch them when I do a manual scan.

Thanks,
Balaji
