Hi,

I was taking a look at these 2 tools:BTEQ and WINDDI, and I have some points/questions :
1) For exactly what does WINDDI stand for?
WINDDI seems more like an SQL Navigator (Quest Software´s database browser),
and it has a lot of administrative tools.(Am I right ?)
2) Many times WINDDI seems to play the same role as BTEQ, but I noticed that somethings (like creating users using BTEQ and WINDDI, for an example)are "understood" differently by BTEQ and WINDDI (I created an user using BTEQ that is not recognized when I try to acess it via WINDDI).Why?

WinDDI= Windows Data Dictionary Interface
Bteq= Basic Teradata Query Utility
Not every user can access WinDDI its a DBA utility for creating users and other DB objects.

Hi,
The client software that comes on the DEMO disk is provided because without it the DEMO is kind of dull. We make a great server, but without clients a server is useless. They are intended for use with the demo to show perspective customers what our capabilities are.

As ypinzon points out most paying customers don't give their users access to WINDDI because without the DBC password ( which again isn't normally DBC on a real system ) is kind of limited because you can't access the full catalog to use WINDDI to its full potential.

BTEQ on the other hand doesn't require those priviledges.

Also from a Paying customer point of view, I believe every copy of every utility requires a license fee and therefore it is more likely to be cheaper to purchase BTEQ licenses than it is to purchase WINDDI licenses.

Not being a sales person I don't know what the current going prices of the server, client or the hardware. Again these are all issues to work out with your NCR account team.

Maybe after spending $$$$$ on a teradata server license ( and more on the NCR hardware platform if you purchase NCR hardware) you can talk them into to throwing a couple copies of the client licenses.

Again you need to work that out with your NCR account team as part of the purchase and support contract.
