When buying would having Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology (2.80GHz, 800 FSB, 1MB) or the 3.00GHz 800 FSB AND

Are the above more important or is having 1GB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz (2x512M) If you could get one or the other, would one be of more use to the computer user than the other, And also is Windows® XP Home Edition just as good as the PRO for the home user..........Thanks

What are you going to use the computer for? That's like asking "which is better, a Pinto or a Mercedes - depends whether you need gas milage or speed.

For the home user, i'd go for the extra ram instead of the extra processor speed. Your probably not gonna even feel the extra processor speed, but the ram, will come in handy when having ultiple Office documetns and explorer windows etc... opne at the same time. 1GB is maybe a little too much, but its always better to favor Ram over processor speed, specially whne the processors are that close together

If you go to such a system, I guess that you want to play games. As vacunita says, downgrade the CPU speed and put that on more memory, but also on a better video card. A better video card will lead better results than a quicker CPU. For eveything else than games or video edition, who needs more than a 2 gig processor?
Another way to save bucks on processor is to go AMD, and use the difference to get better peripherals.

And also if you go the AMD route the need for dual channel RAM is greatly diminished due to the lower FSB speeds they run at, hence saving more money on matched/pairs of memory
