Buying an External Hard Drive

I am buying an external hard drive for my laptop. What is the best type for perfomance (USB, PCMCIA, ???)?

PCMCIA can give you much much greater performance than the USB port.

I don't know the numbers, but the PCMCIA port does offer a lot more bandwidth.
