I am in the market for a new hard drive for my main computer. I need only about 40 gig nothing special but my computer is on 24-7. my drive is only 3years old and is making a high pitch frequency noise and I have to get a new one. Can anyone suggest a brand or model that will stand up to the 24-7 use.

Thank you.
Leon

been using Seagate 40gig 7200 harddrives myself and so far havent had any issues from mine or customers

I must put a pitch in for the new line of Maxtor DiamondMax 9 line of drives. With fluid bearings, this disk heats a lot less than other conventional disks I have, and is more silent to.
If it runs cooler, it has to last longer, no ?
I have an 80GB model myself, running 24/7 for a month now. No problems yet.

Just my two cents.

I second the Maxtor DiamondMax line of drives. Mine is extremely quiet and haven't had a problem yet in almost 3 years.

Seagate Barracuda and Cheetah drives are fairly reliable as well, though they tend to give off more heat and a bit more noise. ~cdogg
