I recently bought a G4 733, 128M , 40G ATA HDD, Geforce2 MX. Etc, for starters I Got it on the apple loan, but they would only do 1,800 for me, so I had to buy the display(15" Studio display) on my own, then the rest of the machine on the loan. What I Want to do is find a place that sells OEM mac hardware parts so I can upgrade where I need to fill in the gaps, this would also be much cheaper, one example I can mention is that Apple's Prices for "standard" parts are so rediculous here is an example.

to go from 128M to 1.5Gigs for the pricelist , it would cost me 2,200$

now if I went to Crucial.com chose
Apple->G4->G4 733 for my system config
bout the most expensive I would pay for 256Meg PC133 is around 37$ , and 512Meg would be about 80 some.

so with crucial buying their best rams for the G4 I could get 1.5Gigs for under 300$ instead of paying apple 2 grands for the same.

Does this methodology apply with other hardware componets of the G4? Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}

It sure does. You can buy hard drives much cheaper about anywhere else, and there are plenty of places to buy other parts as well.

and of course, mac warehouse, macmall, maczone, and mac connection all have websites as well where you can buy your goodies. Shop around and get your best deal.

Best of luck,

Heres what I have already done to upgrade my G4.

I bought 2 sticks of PC133 256 megs of memory from Compusa (roughly 70$ each, yes I know I could have gotten top brand crucial.com memory for even half that)

I bought a logitech cordless mousman optical (3 buttons, click, control+click and doubleclick, with wheel, being a primarily windows user , a single button mouse annoys me)

and last but not least (good way to upgrade in my opinion)
I bought a Pryo Firewire Enclosure for IDE drives, and I bought a 12X Creative Labs DVDrom , and I am using it in the firewire enclosure, which plays back rather nice on the mac, and pc. far as 5" drives go, a firewire enclosure is the best way I found to add new types of drives to the G4 without having to find one made for the g4's design.

I might find a ATA/100 100Gig 7200RPM(if they have them yet) , but it'll probally be a month from now before I purchase it , ( I know i'll probally need an ATA/100 controler for the G4) Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}

Throw in another video card and monitor and you'll really be smoking :) After you've used a dual-monitor solution you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!
