Most of my forms were programmed with the crutches of P8 - I am still not good at all with opal.

Without those crutches I am trying to put a button on a form which will open an outside folder or file. Can't get it right.

Say the file is c:/stuff/picture.jpg

What would be the process. Is there any add in for P 10 + which would give the same hand holding as the P 8 interface??

Thank you for any help.

It's easy to do in opal. Use "Execute" to launch an external program and load the desired picture, I'm pretty sure "Execute" was available in Pdox8.

Execute("mspaint.exe c:/stuff/picture.jpg")

jlockley,

If you move up to Version 9 you don't even need to execute the parent application just use

Startwebbrowser(fileName)

This launches the file so if you are using Windows XP

You are welcome. Don't forget to include the file extension so Paradox (or really your operating system) knows what to associate the file with.
