I've got a setup on this computer where I have a DSL internet connection through the LAN, but I also have a dial-up connection set-up, which I still need for some software. Unfortunately, this computer now seems to be insisting that I use the dial-up for normal internet use. When I go into "Internet Options" in the Control Panel, the option "Always dial my default connection" will be checked. I will change it to "Never dial a connection" (as I only want it use the dial-up when I specifically call for it), and it will go back to using the DSL for a bit. Then suddenly, I will be told that the page I'm trying to bring up on the browser isn't available offline, and that my options are connecting (which activates the dial-up that I don't want to use) or continuing to work offline. When I go back to "Internet Options", I find that "Always dial my default connection" has re-selected itself. I have to change it back to "Never" and Uncheck "Work Offline" in my browser before moving on.
In searching for an answer, I keep running into descriptions of people who want "Always" and keep getting "Never". I've got the opposite problem: I want "Never" and keep getting "Always". Any clues?
