Business Objects Enterprise - Failed To Load Database Information 4

I really hope someone can help with this problem...

I am running Crystal Reports XI, and I have created numerous reports and saved them, using both Save As from within Crystal, and direct import into Business Objects Enterprise.

I need to start scheduling reports on a daily basis, but having imported them in, and chosen to run the reports as a test, the following message appears "Failed to load database information" - this happens on all my reports.

Unfortunately I am only a Crystal User, Crystal Server and Business Objects Enterprise was installed by our techy team who have done all they can. I do not know if its something they need to do, ie, during set-up ensure that Crystal Server is pointing to our Oracle database.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Crystal Server doesn't point to the database, each report needs to point to it's appropriate database.

Think it through, CRS wouldn't be designed to point to just one database, and you wouldn't point a report server to a database, each report could be pointing to a unique database, so it must be pointed to it.

You didn't state how you connected to Oracle, ODBC, OLE DB, Native???

You'll likely want an Oracle client on the CRS.

So in CRS, go into the Crystal Management Console (CMC) after loading a report and set the database connectivity information. This is not assumed by CRS, you need to set it.

Your techy team isn't techy or they would know this.

I believe to set it select the report and choose the Process tab under database in the CMC of the CRS.

If you have no idea what I'm speaking of, try using a URL such as the following, replacing servername with your server.

I am using the following settings from within CMS :
"Use original database logon information from the report"

I have also used:
"Use custom database logon information specified here"
and completed all the server name, user ID, and password fields, but still my report does not run.

This error is appearing still:

Error in File D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11\Data\procSched\vmprdcrs001.reportjobserver\~tmp13104e726851da2.rpt: Failed to load database information.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but I do not have a "D:>" drive, only a "C:>", and the error states D drive, but guess im clutching at strawes here!

I connect to Oracle within Crystal XI by just choosing "Log On/Off Server" and then enter username and password under "Oracle Server" folder.

Unfortunately this is the first time anyone in our company has used Crystal Reports, so its blind leading the blind at the moment!

Any further advice would be welcome!!

The error location is the Crystal Reports file itself, so yes, you do have a D drive on the server.

You are using Orascle native connectivity. And no, you
didn't initially connect using log on/log off, you selected Oracle Server as the data source and then passed your credentials and server info, which is the log on part you now speak of.

So you probabloy don't have an Oracle client on ther CRS machine, so it cannot connect.

Once your tech team does so, it'll probably work.

You might also consider loading CR itself on the CRS machine, it tends to give better error messages and will assist you with testing such things.

Thanks for your post, this is very helpful, I have asked one of our DBA guys to set-up Oracle client on the CRS machine, unfortunatley not in til next week so wont know the outcome until then, but im sure this will rectify the problem.

When they set up the Oracle Client, they also need to make sure that the appropriate entries are in the TNSNames.ora file so that the report server can connect to the database used in your reports.

That is probably my #1 advice to people who are having server problems - but IT Operations staff seem to always rebuff the inital request because they don't want to deploy a "Desktop" application on a PRODUCTION server.

I think BOBJ should make it a standard part of the ENTERPRISE Install package wherever you deploy a CRYSTAL JobServer, PageServer or RAS.

Hello I am getting the same database error problem

"Error
The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect.


and I do have Crystal Reports and Crystal Reports Server installed. I also did as you said in the process and database screens for the reports.
For some odd reason the password looks shorter than what I use on the server and every time I change it, it defaults back to something shorter, I can't tell because it is all dots. What do I need to do to make my report run. I am using ODBC.

Make sure that the ODBC DSN is set up on the CRS as well.

Otehrwise it should work fine.

You should start a new thread instead of dovetailing, especially since your error differs now.

In addition, you haven't posted your database type, please remember to include basic technical information.

Sounds like you had a time out.

Hi Guys, thank you all for your help and assistance with my CR Server set-up, the DBA has now installed Oracle, and TNS on the Crystal Server. I am running Crystal XI professional on my desktop, and we did purchase Crystal XI server which came with a report designer, although I cant seem to find this when I log on to the server.

Anyway, my point here is that when I now run my reports from Crystal Server, the following error appears, i'd be so grateful for any advice you can give...

Error Message: Failed to open the connection. D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11\Data\procSched\vmprdcrs001.reportjobserver\~tmp1504eb4c4e6366.rpt Details: [Database Vendor Code: 12154 ]

We have tried connecting to our Oracle database from the Crystal Server and it works fine, but when I log on the CMS through my iEplorer from desktop and run the reports, the above message appears.

I have asked that my Crystal Professional be installed on the Server too, but due to licencing issues, my IT dept. are reluctant to do this.

We have just found out that there was a problem with the TNS names, this has now been rectified and I can open the reports and run them from within BOE.

We are also facing similar issue.Our environment in CRXIR2 SP2 and BOEXIR2 SP2.When we are trying to schedule the report from CMC the report is giving a database error.The report is using Oracle ODBC Connection and based of a stored procedure.

Failed to open the connection. E:\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Data\procSched\rvwdserver01.reportjobserver\~tmp24284edbb0f9ac0.rpt Details: [Database Vendor Code: 12154 ]

I tried to open the report from CR designer and it gives some wierd errors.

1.Sometimes it gives an error mentioning "unknown database connector error"
2.if it gets connected to the database, after clicking on verify database on CR,it says the the "xyz_abc" stored procedure cannot be found.

We are confused at the moment, in order to verify, is this ODBC connection issue or something on the database side.

Try building a new one field report in CR, on the CRS Server, from your stored procedure and see if that runs.

If it does, publish it and run it from CRS to confirm it runs from there. (Schedule and View on Demand)

If it doesn't run from either verify that the stored proc is OK and can be called from another tool like MSQUERY.

Also, connecting to Oracle through ODBC has some problems, especially when you're using stored procedures. I always recommend using the native Oracle connection instead. To get around the problem of different DB names in different environments (DEV, QA, Production), we have done is set up a set of aliases in the format of "CR_..." in the TNSNames files that are specifically for reports (we have 8 databases in every environment.) The aliases are the same across all environments, but they point to the databases for the specific environment. This way we can move reports between environments without having to make any changes to the datasource.
