Can somebody give me some insight into what the differences are for Xandros Business Linux versus the Red Hat, etc versions? Also, I'm guessing Xandros is what most businesses use when they choose Linux for their OS?

Thanks in advance,

Brady

Actually, your not going to find much difference between the two. Both Xandros and Red Hat took an open source product, added their own branding and sell their packages for a huge profit. If you notice however, neither actually makes money on the actual software. It is for the support they offer. Both of which can reach up into the thousands of dollars. That being said, for whatever reason, Red Hat seems to have become the defacto standard for enterprise class distros. They have certification programs for engineers, techs and administrators. It should be noted that my bias has always been toward Red Hat. I cut my teeth on Slackware 2.0 in '93 but moved to Red Hat in '99 with version 5.1. However, I also believe linux is free and should remain so. When Red Hat quit support for their free version it became the fedora project. Fedora is somewhat bleeding edge and may be a little too unstable for for production use. Today I opt for CentOS. It is Red Hat Enterprise Linux whith all the branding and graphics removed. That leaves a very stable enterprise class distro which is perfect for those who don't need off site support. That is what Tek-Tips is for. ;-)
