I am looking to start my own start my own Home PC consulting business.. I have been doing alot of jobs on the side but nothing formal..

I am curious as to what kind of insurance should be carried and what amounts? Mainly going to deal with the home user / home office type setups.. Maybe even some small business consulting work too...

Any info or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated!

If you have no employees, there is no need to get worker's comp. The only real liabililty you have is if you do something in the course of your consulting that damages the client. They have errors and ommissions policies for that, although I have never had one.

It would just be myself no employees (yet).. So I guess there would really be no immediate need for insurance..

But should I have customers sign a waiver before working on their equipment?

Thanks Again for any input!

Waivers are a deterent from lawsuits as x # of people will say to themselves "Gee, I signed a waiver so I cannot sue". This is not true at all.

Waivers are generally not worth the paper they are writen on, and even if someone signs a waiver they can still sue and win if they show how your actions damaged them.

That's why you have a errors & omissions policy
