I want to burn a website on to a cd-rom but it doesn't seem to be straightforward. The website uses asp pages to query an online Access database and these asp pages don't seem to work from the cd. When I run the pages offline on my computer, the html comes up fine but displays the VB code instead of the data that should come from the database. From the cd it tries to go online

I have installed Microsoft Personal Web Server but this doesn't seem to do anything. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get a website like this to work offline from a CD-ROM? It has to be simple because the website and database will be updated regularly and a new CD burned every month and I don't want to have to go in and change code everytime.

Thanks

i'd suggest that you keep the asp online. asp must be run from a webserver, so, if your database is going to be online, then keep the pages that query it online also.

Thanks, but perhaps I should explain the problem in more detail. The database contains a searchable collection of electronic resources, including PDF documents, for an international development project based in Vietnam. We want to make the website available for our partners there as well as here, but Internet connection speeds in Vietnam make viewing and downloading resources too slow to be practical.

The idea therefore, was to burn the website on to a CD-ROM, send it by mail and allow them to run the CD-ROM and have all the features of the website that we have here available on a computer there. I had hoped that the PWS would act as the webserver, but perhaps it is not possible after all.

if they have a webserver running, and the files are where they are supposed to be, then it shouldn't be a problem to have the asp offline. the thing is, i dont think a webserver will serve pages off a cd, they will have to move the pages so that they're in the webservers directory and they'll have to view them from the webserver. using 127.0.0.1 in they're browser, instead of c:\blah\inded.asp

Hey, we got it working although only using IE on Windows 98. And the PWS can be configured to run the website off a CD. Thanks.
