Any idea, How the bulleted and numbered items can be identified in a word document?

For Example consider the following text
1.1 Functions
1.2 Advantages
1.3 Summary

Can the value of the numbered item(Eg 1.1) along with the Description(Eg Functions) be retrieved?
When I tried to retrieve the values using the Sentence object, It doesnot retrieve the value(ie 1.1) but only the desc. Can u help?
I am working with VB.Net, Word 2000.
