Anyone here have experience of using BULDACCT to move accounts between volume sets?

I'll wait for a reply before posting my problem!

Yes, I have experience using the BULDACCT utility. What problem are you having?

Hi

Many thanks for your reply!

Very basically, we are in the process of moving our lilve system from a 969KS-220 to a A500.

On the original system, we only ever had one volume set. On the new system we have two. When we originally restored the system, this was overlooked so everything was naturally restored to the system volume set, which swiftly ran out fo disk space.

I am in the process of migrating some accounts to the private volume set, using BULDACCT. In general this has been OK, but on a couple of occasions something has gone slightly wrong and when restoring the files back, half to got the system volume set and half to the private volume set. I'm not sure why this is happening.

So I suppose I would like to know two things:

1] Any idea why this might happen?
2] Is it a problem having an account spread over two volume sets?

Let me know if you need clarification or some more info to be of help!

Thanks for your time,

Andy Leates

You need to specify the groups be on the volume set. See the NEWGROUP command, it has to be issued two times.
NEWGROUP XYZ;HOMEVS=VOLSET
NEWGROUP XYZ;ONVS=VOLSET

When you do a LISTGROUP, it will show you what Volume set it is on. I bet your PUB groups are being put on the MPEIX_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET.

Accounts can belong to more than one volume set but groups can not.

Hope this help.

Yes, it appears that you are right about the PUB group still residing on the system volume set.

So, if I take the LIVE account for example, would I:

store @.pub.live to tape with purge option
issue your newgroup commands
restore @.pub.live back from tape

Or do I need to utilize BULDACCT again?

Many thanks for your help

Andy

You do not need to use the BLDACCT command again.

Go with the store and purge but you will also have to purge the PUB Group, then rebuild it. Make sure the user you do the PURGEGROUP command isn't using the PUB group in that account... or it won't be purge.

Good luck
