I am brand new to VMWare, however, I'm familiar with it's concept.

I have built an image using Windows XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex GX745. Will I need to sysprep it or does VM remove HAL specific identifiers before it builds the parent VM image?

Am I on the right track? IF not, how should I build the VM parent image?

If you use Virtual Center to deploy the image, then VMware will install and run sysprep for you when it boots up the new machine for the first time.

You have to put the sysprep files on the Virtual Center server for this to work.

that's pretty much what I needed to know! Thanks.

It is best to sysprep any windows OS before you install the image, minus installing any software or application like IIS or SQL that uses the Server or Machine name.
