I am building new pc and having few issues need help.

motherboard==> ASUS P6T

I have installed, cpu, memory, powersupply, hard drive, video card, sound card. I am getting 2 beeps and then computer stays on without any display.

secondly when i try turning the computer off by holding power button it will not turn off. I have to turn it off from powersupply button.

Any help is appreciated. I suspect it is memory issue and i am not home right now, but as soon as i get home i will try removing 1 stick of memory. and try again.

Any insructions, any help with power not turnign off help?

ASUS uses the Award BIOS: You can find the beep codes here

1 long, 2 short Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information

Any other beep(s) RAM problem.

Good luck!

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

AZ - ASUS does use AMI BIOS also... e.g. my P5Q has it... JFYI...

Mdarsot - AMI BIOS:

1 long and 1 short beep, indicates a messed up mainboard, one of the symptoms is that you cannot turn the PC off with the front power button...

2 short beeps, indicate a problem with one of the POST's parity checks, make sure all the cards (RAM & graphic) are seated correctly, CLR CMOS as the factory settings may have become scrambled and it does not recognize the CPU in use...

also check the ASUS compatibility chart to see if your RAM is on it...

If that all doesn't help try to change the slot of the memory sticks, or try to boot the computer using only 1 memory stick. Switch slots and try again. If you have other spare compatible memory, that you are 100% sure that it works, try it out.

I hope I helped.

Make sure the CPU goo is applied correclty. Occims razor idea says check the simple things first.

If you know that memory is good and that CPU is in secure try looking at your cables that connector the power button from the tower to MB you might have them in wrong pins..
