What are the steps involoved in learning to build a search Engine ?

Like

Step 1 : The Different types of search Technology
Step 2 : What are the scripts that are required to build a script.

How are search Engines built. I need to build a search engine for a site whi have about 1000 pages, well organized under folders and with appropriate Titles and Meta Tags.

Dreamweaver MX has a search-engine capability...using databases...look into it... I have not failed; I have merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...
