Hi all,

New member to the forums, apologies for some of the basic questions that will ensue...

I am relatively new to Avaya, and am trying to gain an understanding of how to build a PBX from the ground up, I have 10 phones to connect and thought the best way to learn would be to build a system from the ground up.

I am trying to understand what I need to get started to build a basic CM, here is what I have researched so far..

I need a media gateway of some kind (like a G250) / a DS1 card
A server of some kind (S8300D/S8510 or similar) - unsure if I could just use an existing server I have and create a Linux VM for CM?
Some phones.
What needs to be licensed and what's the best way to do this?

I already have a switch.

What budget should I be looking at?

Thanks for any assistance.

Are you doing this for your own business, or are you a VAR trying to sell a system? Is this just a lab? Licensing is going to be the most difficult part to answer without an official Avaya/Avaya BP answer. You won't be able to buy most of this stuff in any "official" or supported capacity with Avaya/Avaya BP.

From a technical viewpoint: You need a media gateway (or DSP via medpro AAMS server), and either a server to hold the CM system (S8300 or HP DL360G8+), or you can deploy an OVA in VMWare.
