Hi, question for ya all :
Has anyone tried this new thing - BuilderX ? Is it any good? Is upgrading 6->X good idea?
Thanks in advance.

P.S.
Tell me that IDE is the same as in C#Builder, please :)

FYI, I haven't tried it yet but in the December 2003 issue of C/C++ User's Journal Borland has included an evaluation copy of Builder X.

Thanks for the info. In the mean time I've found out some interesting things about it - conclusion : it's got nothing in common with C++Builder. And yes, VCL and C++Builder are, apparently, dead!!! :(

Yeah,

I don't think I'll be using BuilderX anytime soon. After watching the product tour on the Borland site, I saw that the interface seems very intimidating. Of course I don't think it was exactly designed for me either. If I were in this for the money, maybe... of course then I may be able to pay the $2,500.00 price as well.

Bottom line: I'm sticking with 6

the cd I got with CUJ has an expired demo.
It wont run and I havent yet tried to set the clock
back. or maybe it requires XP or something I aint got.

$2500.00, OH sure I'll write a check now.

My two cents worth, if you need to write in multiple OS, Builder X is the way to go. If, like me, you have a lot of Builder programs that use VCL, you'll want to stick with Builder # (3, 4, 5, or 6).

Builder X has the same Borland compiler that 5 and 6 use so it will compile existing programs (with some work). Its IDE is different enough from the older version that it would take me some time to relearn it. Also, I don't have a need, yet, to compile in SUN, Unix, etc. Finally, the C++ committee is currently working at revamping the standard. All of the above reasons (and the cost, of course) will make me wait until the new standard is out and the new X compilers are done before I update.

Butthead,
[tab]Have you called the toll free number on the CD to see about the outdated version?

Thanks for feedback guys. I found some info my self and finally decided not to get anywhere near that thing! I use C++Builder because of elegancy of VCL, and the quick results without much trouble. Now, they are canning C++Builder in favour of some multi-platform, java-based-IDE monster. But, I don't write multi-platform stuff, and am not interrested in such thing, probably there are others who share my opinnion and need Builder as it is now. But, apparently it's been brutally killed.

Finally, BuilderX? Thanks, but no thanks!

Have you guys seen my credit Card. I seem to have lost it.

It went "pooff", caught fire, and then up in smoke when you tried to use it to buy Builder X. ;-)
