Bug In I.E. 6.0 Causes Problem With Windows Explorer File Movement

If anyone is experiencing this problem as I am and knows of a cure, please advise:

I finally chased this bug down to the installation of IE 6.0 on any machine with Windows 98, 98SE or ME that has IE 5.0, 5.5 or 5.5 SP1 installed already. It may occur with other Operating Systems and versions of IE, but at least these. I have reproduced these results each time IE 6.0 is installed and then Windows Explorer is used for File movement. This has happened on 6 different machines so far.

Here is the problem: After the install of IE 6.0 and while using Windows Explorer for file movement or copying of files to different folders, the process stops working as designed. Using a right mouse click to "drag & drop" files to any other folder will “highlight” said folder. Thus letting you know exactly where they are to be deposited. However, as soon as the mouse button is let up, the “highlight” now reverts back to the folder from which the file(s) originated, instead of staying where they are to be moved or copied to (as it did before the I.E. 6 install).

This is very annoying in the fact that while working quickly, I have not had the mouse exactly on the intended folder or perhaps it moved slightly while sub-folders opened beneath it and my files were moved to the wrong folder unbeknownst to me... several times. This glitch seems to materialize immediately after the install of I.E. 6.0 and no amount of fussing with options or tweak programs, has had any affect at alleviating this nuisance.

I’m sure a patch for this would be simple and may already be available, yet I have not been able to locate one to fix this problem.

Any help would be most appreciated, thanx.

I have had a slightly similar experience. I run Win98SE and IE6 causes Windows Explorer to lock up when deleting large folders (not to the recycle bin). This behaviour is often accompanied by a message box warning that resources are low (I use Resource Meter).

To rub salt into the wound, I reverted to IE5.5 and the problem went away(?), whoopee! Hubris follows when I find that Outlook98 is broken because IE6 is no longer there. Complete reinstall of OS and euston in tears (boohoo).

I have tried IE6 with WinME and NT4 and it works fine.

The moral is don't upgrade from IE5.5 and don't use IE5.5(SP2) if you need the services of Quicktime movie player. SP2 (and so presumably IE6 also) does not support the plugins.
