I am running hp-ux 11.11 with 12 gb of ram.
We have Oracle 10g on top of this with other programs as well as sql on the same server.

I set the buffer cache to 20% or 2.4 gb of the ram.
Our dba wants me to lower this down to 600mg.
I dont agree with this low setting.
Am I correct or is this over kill.

Please advise

that could be correct, in hp-ux between 5% and 10% is recommended for buffer cache. Ussualy you have an external array that gives you more cache memory, so if you have more cache in the hp server you are (basically) wasting memory.

Cheers.
